Coventry School Scoops Top Prize

Bishop Ullathorne school in Coventry came away with first prize at the 2006 Fulcrum Website Design awards ceremony held at Coombe Abbey on 18 December.

The competition to design a website was held by Fulcrum to support local education and enhance their links in the community. Aimed at secondary schools, the competition ran for three months and offered a generous prize of £5,000 in computer equipment for the winning school.

Over 40 schools around Fulcrum's main offices in Coventry, Rotherham, Edinburgh and Crawley were invited to take part; a challenge readily accepted by Andy Baker, Head of ICT at Bishop Ullathorne. "I saw it as a great opportunity for the students to complete a real task as part of this year's curriculum." Andy explained. Anthony Caren, Grace McKenna and Brandon Wood formed the Bishop Ullathorne team and were delighted when they found out they had won.

The judges were so impressed by their entry, as well as that of Gopesh Sharma from President Kennedy school, also in Coventry, that individual prizes of iPods were awarded to each of the students as well as a Special Commendation for Gopesh.

The awards ceremony was attended by all of the winning students and their families, Andy Baker, Head of ICT at Bishop Ullathorne School, Helen Petrak and Gordon Payne, Leader of Business & ICT and Head Teacher at President Kennedy School as well as Andy Wagg, Director of Finance and IS at Fulcrum and James Schreder, Account Manager at Fujitsu Services who sponsored the first prize.
