Glasgow Test Houses
Client: City Building Glasgow
Location: Norfolk Street, Glasgow
Completed: July 2010
Project Type
- New outlet pipework gas connections
The Project
Fulcrum worked with City Building Glasgow, Glasgow Housing
Association and PRP Architects to deliver four new gas
services to prototype examples of modern sustainable homes.
About The Site
The aim of the project is to demonstrate that these prototype
homes, designed to meet low carbon emissions targets and future
building standards, can be constructed to achieve high standards of
insulation and reduce energy costs to residents.
Our Approach
Fulcrum worked closely with our customer, City Building Glasgow,
to provide a complete end-to-end service that fully considered the
environmental impact of this project.
At all stages of design, planning and construction Fulcrum
maintained a continuous dialogue with City Building Glasgow to meet
all their requirements and deliver the project on time and within
budget.
The Technical Part
Fulcrum installed approximately 100m of 63mm main and four 32mm
gas services terminating in semi-concealed meter boxes. All of the
gas infrastructure installed was outlet pipework taken from the
meter currently supplying the City Building training
facility.
The secondary gas meters installed were fitted with a pulse
facility enabling City Building to monitor gas consumption within
the different build types and receive invaluable data with regards
to the energy efficiency comparison.
All of the work was completed within just 2 days.
A Dedicated Delivery
Field Operational Manager John McLuskey:
"I was approached by City Building, in partnership with Glasgow
Housing Association, to assist with the installation of the new gas
infrastructure to two prototype examples of modern sustainable
homes.
Following an examination of the project and on site discussions,
it was agreed that the most practical and economic solution would
be to install the new infrastructure as outlet pipework from an
existing U65 meter currently supplying the City Building Skills
Academy.
This decision was key to delivering an efficient and economic
solution as it meant the project could be delivered quickly and
with minimal disruption.
This project allowed trainees to maximise their 'on the job'
skills, improve energy efficiency and deliver energy efficient
solutions that tackled fuel poverty head-on."
What Our Customers Say
"As the Utility Services Manager for Glasgow City Council's
construction department, I utilise many utility organisations.
Without exception, Fulcrum is the most customer orientated,
efficient, installation and after service utility company,
whether large or small projects, I have had the pleasure of
employing. I have no difficulty recommending Fulcrum, for all of
their services to their customers."
